Moustache

Moustache. What comes to the mind when you hear this word? Facial hairs on the upper lip or an attribute of the gender male. Whatsoever it has been in possession of many important personalities like Hitler, Hulk hogan and many Viceroys. No doubt the style has evolved and today there you see a variety among the Moustache on Faces. Beliefs differ among Religions and visions on whether to keep it, trim it or simply remove it.

Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Five things-in another narration, ten things-are in our creation. and stated that one of them is shortening the mustache (Muslim, Tahara, 50, 56). It is virtuous to grow a mustache as it means protecting the creation (fitrat). Besides, for some mujtahids (Islamic scholars who are entitled to derive secondary matters from the Quran and the sunnah), it is makrooh (religiously abominable) to completely shave mustache. The hadiths about mustache are about shortening it. In a hadith narrated by Tirmidhi, the Prophet says: The one who does not shorten his mustache is not one of us. (Tirmidhi, Adab, 6). Mustache must be shortened in such a way that the redness of the upper lip can be seen.

Ibn 'Umar (ra) related that the Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "Be different to the Mushrikeen: Let the beards grow and trim the moustaches short" as recorded by Al-Bukhaari and in a version from Muslim: "Be different to the Mushrikeen: Trim the moustaches short and let the beards grow."

Conculsion is that just don't let it creep over your face, Trim it and keep it to a desired length neither too long nor completely shaed.
