What is IP address

Internet Protocol Address (or IP Address) is analogous to a street address or telephone number in that computing devices use to identify itself and communicate with other devices in the Internet Protocol network. Any device connected to the IP network must have an unique IP address within its network.

What does an IP address look like

In IPv4, the IP numbers take the form of four groups of a maximum of three digits each (called octets) separated by periods (full stops). The periods are usually verbalized as "dot". Example: 199.045.145.123. The new IPv6 IP numbers is lomger, it looks like: 2001:0db8:85a3:08d3:1319:8a2e:0370:7344

Who can see and track my IP address?

When you use instant messengers, post on web forums, send emails, or access any online accounts - your computer's IP is logged by the network receiving communication requests. This is an essential step that cannot be avoided and contributes to various technical, security and privacy aspects.

Why does a computer's IP address changes

Every time people establish a new connection with their Internet Service Provider account either using a wired connection or a wireless connection, the ISP's network assigns an individual IP number to the computer. This is a technical aspect of user account digital id distribution.

What is geolocation

Pairing of IP address to a geographical location is called geolocation. The geographic details are pulled from a commercially available geolocation database. Geolocation technology can never be 100% accurate in providing the location of an IP address. The country accuracy is estimated at about 99%.

How accurate is IP location database

When the IP address is a proxy server and it does not expose the user's IP address it is virtually impossible to locate the user. For IP addresses in the United States, it is 90% accurate on the state level, and 81% accurate within a 25 mile radius. Our world-wide users indicate 60% accurate within 25 miles.

Why should I use IP location finder

There are times when you need to identify where your web visitors are coming from. You might have an ecommerce website, and would like to know where your potential customers are, pre-populate country code on forms, display different language and reduce credit card fraud based on geographic location.
